Master modules
Machine learning has already led to major advances in climate and environmental sciences in terms of modelling and understanding high-dimensional systems. During the winter semester 2023 (WS 23/24), we offered the MSc module Machine Learning in Climate and Environmental Sciences for the first time. This module introduces fundamental and advanced machine learning techniques, covering both theory and practice. The students develop a structured approach to addressing real-world challenges with machine learning, in particular through programming exercises on a range of topics (e.g., weather forecasting, causal discovery, climate model emulation) and two hackathon competitions.
Please note: The lecture will not be offered in the upcoming winter semester 2026/27. Information about future lectures will be announced here in due course.
